It’s another year so it’s time to start our speaker interviews so all of you Maritime DevCon attendees can get to know our speakers for this year’s event. Don’t forget that last week we put out our session interest survey so make sure to give an answer too. Let’s get started getting to know our first speaker this year, Jason Tatem.

Jason has over 20 years of professional experience in the world of technology, so he’s seen many things break in many ways. He uses this knowledge of how systems can work – and fail – in his role as a Principal Site Reliability Engineer at Salesforce. In recent years, he has become one of his company’s experts on the topic of incident management. He trained their Site Reliability staff to be great incident commanders and review their performance to ensure quality. We are happy to have Jason speaking at this year’s event.

So Jason, if you were a programming language or technology, which one would you be and why?

I’d be a serial port because sometimes I talk too fast and need some flow control.

What do you like best about Maritime DevCon?

I’m not from the Maritime region, but I love to visit. Having part of my team in Saint John just makes it even better, I get to see them and go to a cool conference!

Why do you feel your session, It’s About Time – Improving incident response with IMS, will bring value to Maritime DevCon attendees?

Salesforce has spent a lot of time and resources on figuring out what works for incident management, and we’d like to share with the greater technology community the results of that effort. We believe the IMS process is applicable to a wide range of businesses and organizations. Also, we’d like to tell the community about the open source Refocus framework and the kinds of tools that can be developed with it.

What is the key take away attendees will get from your session?

Salesforce uses a combination of processes and tooling to consistently and professionally manage critical incidents in an ever-growing, ever-changing, multi-technology cloud platform. Many of these could be applied to the incidents that happen for other technology companies.

Thank you in advance for joining us for Maritime DevCon 2018 Jason!
