It’s a beautiful Friday in the Maritimes and it’s a perfect day to kick off a long weekend with meeting another Maritime DevCon 2018 speaker. Meet Michael Henheffer.
Michael Henheffer is currently the Developer Manager of New Product Initiatives at Teledyne CARIS in Fredericton. He has been at CARIS for 12 years working with a variety of framework and product teams but mostly on their HIPS product. He is currently on a New Product Initiative team pursuing the use of new technologies and helping launch new products.
Michael graduated from University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Applied Science, Computer Engineering in 2004. After that, he worked at Gallium Software in Ottawa developing an API for use in HUDS for air traffic control and military command and control applications. In 2006, he returned home to Fredericton when he joined CARIS.
When not working, Mike can be found spending time with his wife and two young daughters. He enjoys a variety of sports in his spare time.
So Mike, if you were a programming language or technology, which one would you be and why?
I’d have to go with C as it is mature and efficient, yet very powerful.
What do you like best about Maritime DevCon?
I have not had a chance to attend in the past, but I think it is great to see the community it helps to foster among developers in the area.
Why do you feel your session, Getting Started with AI Through Machine Learning, will bring value to Maritime DevCon attendees?
The world is increasingly moving towards the use of AI and machine learning to solve many problems quickly. It’s replacing the need for tedious tasks done by users and is a key technology in the rise of automation. I think knowledge of AI and machine learning is a very marketable skill at the moment and a lot of DevCon attendees would benefit from an increased knowledge in it.
What is the key take away attendees will get from your session?
Attendees will get an idea of how to identify problems AI may excel at solving. They will come away with an understanding of the tools and techniques they can use to get started on a machine learning based AI implementation.
Thank you in advance for joining us for Maritime DevCon 2018 Michael!
